This is the second part of the blog post, “Media of Emotions” where we went over setting your surrounding to be open to communicating with yourself, introducing yourself to media, and beginning to explore. From this point on, we will focus on the meditation part during the process of creating art. Here, I have included three important keywords mentioned in the previous article: notice, attention, and acknowledge.
Media used:
You will find that in this post I use the angular brush. I’m not quit sure why I decided to use this brush versus the Tombow water bursh which you will get to see in a future video. Perhaps, I thought it would be safer to start with and give me more control of where I was applying the Tombow brush pen ink. This makes a great example, because you do not want to overthink which tool you should use for what. Click back to the article, Media of Emotions” to read the art supplies used in the video.
Let’s explore:
The important thing is to remember, in the beginning, to set an intention to open your heart and communication to your self. Perhaps, we can say it is a way of learning to trust your intuition. Also, to forgive yourself for any actions or thoughts that you may label as mistakes during the processor. Now, let’s focus on these three keywords!
1. Notice
Take notice of your physical surrounding. Observe as an outsider. Make your movements slowly. Pick up the brush very slowly while observing your actions. Think of it as dancing with your thoughts side-by-side. Do not try to stop yourself from thinking as this will get your thoughts spinning. Be with your thoughts as a dancing partner. Keep observing the physical surrounding: the desk, chair, sketchbook paper, water, watercolors, and media you are using. Gaze at the details.
2. Attention
Pay attention to what you are creating, how you are creating it, and the movements of your hands. Watch how the watercolors flow and mix to different tones. The ways in which the paper absorbs the ink wherever it allows it to go. The way everything is so fluid without a plan, yet the colors harmonize.
This is the moment to take special care of your surrounding and your self. Treat the air delicately as if you were moving everything around you with each gesture. Combine this with the first step and go back-and-forth between both. Let go of any tension in your body and mind. Remember to breathe!
3. Acknowledge
Acknowledge what you are doing in that moment. Give yourself credit and be gentile with yourself. Be grateful that you have given time to yourself. That you are able to experience the simple moments. Realize and accept that everything, negative and positive, works together and balance must be practiced. Every actions you make is valid within your respect of the space. The small moments; those in-between moments are special and you are privy to them if you choose.
What is next?
During the time you decide to pause remind yourself to take those movements with you throughout the day. Practice flowing with the moment. Watch the YouTube video “Meditation Through Art; Tombow”. The link will be posted here directly soon.
